This past year I was fortunate enough to become a board member of Pay it Forward Saint John. What began as a few videos shot after hours in the learning commons at St. Malachy’s Memorial High School soon turned into something much larger as we began to become more organized, with board members from numerous disciplines.
After winning the Salty award for best use of social media in a campaign for 2013, we moved forward and began our plans for international pay it forward day on the 25th of April. Solidifying numerous backers and support from the region was no easy task but with the help of big sponsors like Ambir and East side Shoppers, we were able to fly in the founder of the international movement, Charlie Johnson, to participate in our 24 hours of kindness initiative.
The amount involved in putting on a day like this was a massive undertaking, but the experience I gained and the connections I made were more valuable then I can express. I will never forget the 700 plus students from Anglophone School District South arriving at the Marco Polo Cruise ship terminal excited to kick off a day of random acts of kindness.
I have included links to the website and you can see some of the videos I recorded and edited under the videos tab. If you wish to participate in this great initiative, take a look at our website and see how you can get involved.
